Letter: Oyster Bay should keep property

The Town of Oyster Bay is shortsighted in its plan to unload the 54-acre public works facility in Syosset as surplus property ["Oyster Bay OKs sale of key site," News, May 22].
The centrally located site could be used to combine all the existing town storage yards and consolidate redundant governmental offices.
The $32.5-million sale to plug the budget has not been put up for public comment or competitive bidding, and I'm concerned that it could trigger the creation of an even grander megamall at the adjacent 39-acre Cerro Wire property.
Long-term planning is needed to anticipate the needs of the town, not hasty backroom deals.
