Letter: Preventing violence begins at home

It's always sad when parents lose a child, but I find it unimaginable to have a child killed ["Finally, communication begins," News column, Oct. 23].
The parents of Maggie Rosales, 18, of Huntington Station, have every right to protest the death of their daughter and what they feel is a lack of police cooperation and protection. However, the police can't be everywhere.
Why don't parents educate their children about danger? Take responsibility. Tell your children that they should be home at a certain hour, and know where they are. Tell them the difference between right and wrong.
Teach them, and instill in them, that killing another human being is against all decency. Teach them that it's better to walk away from a confrontation than to kill someone who disagrees with you.
