I was very pleased to see that Pope Francis is acknowledging global warming and blaming "human activity" for the bulk of the problem ["Pope: Protect planet," News, June 17].
For years I have been writing to politicians, to no avail, suggesting a bill to mandate that cars be turned off while being dried at car washes. I have waited as long as 20 minutes while my car was vacuumed, dried and shined. I turn off my car as soon as it's brought out.
If you multiply the many car washes following the same procedure day after day, the emissions are probably astronomical.
A law like this wouldn't solve our crisis, but it certainly would help.
