Letter: Relations with China require attention

With all of the international tensions that are currently affecting many parts of the world, one area that really needs to be watched is the relationship between China and the United States ["Chen is invited as visiting scholar," News, May 7].

While we do not agree on all international issues, there must be a willingness on the part of both nations to work together to help resolve issues of importance, such as the growing dispute between China and the Philippines regarding the Spratly Islands.

China and the United States can and must work together on the international stage for the importance of strengthening world peace. Our two nations will find that there are more areas of cooperation than potential confrontation.
