North Shore-LIJ spokesman Terry Lynam said it will keep some of the facility's beds at Glen Cove Hospital certified by the state health department so the medical provider wouldn't need to go through the certification process again if down the road it wanted to use them. It's a sad state of affairs when a city with a population of 27,000 people cannot afford a hospital ["Suozzi joins call to save hospital," News, Aug. 20]. It makes one wonder about the health care in our country.

Not only would we be losing much-needed inpatient care if the Glen Cove Hospital closes, we would be losing well-qualified doctors and surgeons.

North Shore-LIJ officials announced the decision without our elected officials or residents being duly notified. This not only affects Glen Cove but also the surrounding communities.

I am asking that this decision be overturned.
