Letter: Second-guessing Hofstra shooting

Regarding "Many questions in Hofstra shooting" [Letters, May 29], no, it's not a surprise that the police union president is backing the officer in the shooting. He's also a police officer, and he's doing his duty standing by his people.
In the union president's defense, the public has no idea what happened that terrible day. The only thing that is known for sure is this officer's life will never be the same. He will have what happened to Andrea Rebello on his mind every day. He'll have liberals hanging him, a family man who was just doing his job to support his family.
How about everyone who thinks they know what this officer saw or who judges his actions not jumping on the police-bashing so fast? Until you walk in the officer's shoes and have so little time to react, you don't know.
