"Fix the Senate filibuster" [Editorial, May 18] is basically correct. The filibuster's overuse is one critical reason why the Southern District of New York, the federal court in Manhattan, suffers six judgeship vacancies.
The Senate did pass limits designed to reduce the anonymous use of filibusters in January 2011. However, if filibusters do not become rare, the Senate may need to institute additional reform for the good of the chamber, the courts and the nation.
