Letter: Shame in visit with Salvadoran VP
Where's the shame? Where's the countywide outrage ["Mangano flunks foreign affairs," Editorial, Aug. 17]?
The vice president of El Salvador, a man who participated in an anti-American rally where the American flag was burned just days after the Sept. 11 attacks, comes to Long Island and is honored by Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, Legis. Francis X. Becker Jr. and Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick.
The only thing that's even more shameful is the defense of Salvador Sanchez Cerén's appearance at the flag-burning by the vice consul to the Salvadoran consulate: He said Cerén "did not actively participate." In other words, he "only" attended the rally -- as if that lessens his guilt.
