Letter: Slow down on Hempstead Turnpike

Regarding "Tears on the turnpike" [News, April 6], as a lifelong Levittown resident, my heart goes out to the family of Anthony D'Alessandro. I would like to point out some simple common sense on the traffic problems of Hempstead Turnpike: Slow down, signal, don't tailgate, obey all traffic laws. Don't be enraged because the car in front is only doing the speed limit.
Because of my job, I drive these roads daily, and have for 20 years. People seem to be in a constant rush. Having been close to three families who have buried children struck on Hempstead Turnpike, I have seen the toll it has taken.
