Regarding "Hey, slowpoke, move over!" [Expressway, April 28], shame on Newsday for publishing this drivel!

Apparently, the writer believes that anyone who drives in the left lane is exempt from the law. Amazing. With all of the highway fatalities and road rage that we are dealing with on the Island, why on Earth would you give a voice to someone who, in my opinion, advocates dangerous and illegal driving habits?

Best of all, she suggests that accidents happen when people who are trying to break the law by speeding, skirt around people going the speed limit. And her solution is to blame the people who are not breaking the law.

Yes, the left lane is the passing lane, and after traveling there to pass other vehicles, you can go back into the flow of traffic. But the writer defends "confident drivers" and "pseudo race-car drivers" who are frustrated by slowpokes in the left lane. People who drive too fast are breaking the law and do not deserve any special consideration, other than my changing lanes to avoid the police car when they get their ticket.

I just sit here shaking my head wondering how I ended up living in this Alice-in-Wonderland world where up is down.
