Letter: State should spend on bus service

Approximately 28,000 SUNY employees -- including 598 in NYC -- will see gradual bumps in their paychecks, under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal to increase the minimum wage of all state employees to $15 an hour. Credit: Getty Images / Slaven Vlasic
The news that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo wants to spend millions of dollars to improve air, rail and roads for Long Island must be great for a lot of people [“LI future at stake,” News, Jan. 6].
Too bad, though, that a portion of that money isn’t going to the Nassau and Suffolk bus systems.
If it did, maybe the only bus that connects my area of North Valley Stream to the Village of Valley Stream — where I visit my doctor, the post office, the Long Island Rail Road Station and Green Acres Mall — wouldn’t be slated for elimination [“No ticket to ride,” News, Jan. 11].
I don’t drive and will now have to travel to the village by cab. The fare, one way, is $9.
