Letter: Stop to pick up discarded cans

“ ‘Nickels’ of neglect and opportunity” [Expressway, Aug. 21] was a nice story in the Opinion section, but it had an extremely disappointing ending.
Counting bottles and cans only as a distraction while running is sad. Why not go back later with family, friends or others in the community to make a difference and clean it up?
This is a microcosm of what’s wrong. We all must be more selfless, and picking up a tossed can is a start.
