I read with interest your article "Colleges' major changes: Universities adapt by expanding health care degree programs" [News, Aug. 19]. As a professional assistant for the Health IT Technical Career Training Program at Suffolk County Community College, I know that there is an extensive list of health care degree and certificate programs that the school offers.

Besides the degree program you mentioned, the emergency medical technician-paramedic, there are programs such as practical nursing, chemical dependency counseling, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, dietetic technician, American Sign Language and veterinary science technology.

The college's continuing education department also offers many health care certificate programs for professional development, including pharmacy technician, opthalmic assistant, medical billing, dietary management, CPR/First Aid and medical terminology.
