For years, I have made Newsday my newspaper of choice because of its unbiased and well-written news and sports on a local and global level. Never once did I take offense to the decision to run a cover story or question the content in the first several pages. That changed on June 30 ["Synagogue ripped off," News].

Newsday's decision to devote the front page to a synagogue scandal, which was purely financial in nature, over other major breaking headlines is biased and myopic to larger, more scandalous, more newsworthy issues we face not only in Nassau County, but in the world at large.

Our commander-in-chief has notified the world of the massive economic instability the United States is facing. We have soldiers in harm's way. On the same day the news broke about the alleged fraud at Congregation Aish Kodesh in Woodmere, we learned of a pediatrician in Bethpage who was allegedly drugging and sexually abusing his patients. This, and the imminent layoff of Nassau County workers, affect a lot more people than the membership of this synagogue.

Make no mistake, I believe the alleged fraud of this treasurer is shameful and betraying. It is worthy of a statement. However, one must pause and consider if it is front-page material when compared to other happenings.
