Letter: Translation service could be costly

Your feature on Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone was very informative ["One crisis after another," News, Feb. 3].
In view of the county's budget challenges, it's inexplicable that Bellone could issue an executive order requiring county agencies to translate important public documents into six languages and provide interpreters to non-English speakers. Does he have a cost estimate to the taxpayer for this very generous service?
I would think that both naturalized citizens and legal immigrants should be able to communicate in English to the extent necessary to conduct business with the county. So, to whom is this service directed?
