I am appalled that a donation of signs in front of the Commack school district buildings will have the name of a private construction company displayed, thereby providing free advertising into perpetuity for that company ["Materials, labor given for school signs," News, Feb. 28].

A school district's job is to educate children. In no way does a business partnership of this sort advance that goal. The superintendent, Donald James, is quoted saying that the donation is especially appreciated "during these difficult fiscal times when there are no funds for 'extras' in the school budgets."

This is a smart business move for the Gappsi Group.
