Letter: Try four-quadrant crossing gates
Regarding the letter “Two ways to cut crossing accidents” [May 17], four-quadrant crossing gates at railroad tracks are another safety measure that would be less expensive than eliminating grade crossings. These gates have a mechanism on both sides of the tracks for both directions of automotive traffic.
Hopefully, nothing like the 1982 Herricks Road crossing disaster in which nine teenagers were killed will ever happen again.
