Unfair to deny variance to farmers
I couldn’t believe the story about the Southold couple who wanted to open a winery on their 24-acre property, but were denied a variance by the town zoning board [“Put a cork in it?” News, April 1].
The board cited concerns about traffic and noise.
It’s a farm — how much noise can it possibly create?
This young couple are just looking to open a small winery and raise their children in a wonderful environment. By being denied a variance, they might be forced to move and sell their property.
The Southold zoning board should really rethink its decision.
