Letter: Union rep. isn't Foley's issue

The recent editorial about the John J. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility states that the question about which union represents Foley employees is "an issue at the heart of the battle." There is absolutely no basis for that assertion. There is not now, nor has there ever been any competition between unions about who will represent the employees, whether the facility remains public or is sold to a private operator.

Clearly, there are far more significant issues to overcome. I urge you to refocus on the concerns raised in the first sentence of your editorial where you state accurately that the discussion is "about the needs of vulnerable residents, the jobs of valued workers and the finances of a county in severe financial distress." Unions should not be blamed for the delays in resolving the fate of the nursing home.
