Letter: Volunteer forces paid entire price

Newsday's editorial "Hard-learned lessons of war" [March 24] was probably the most complete and concise article regarding America's relationship to war that I've read in Newsday in recent years.
The only missed point was saying that it was un-American that our leaders were never required to make a case for how Sadam Hussein posed an imminent threat to the United States or its interests. The part that's un-American is that we sent active duty and reserve soldiers, sailors, Air Force members and Marines into harm's way for two or more tours of duty.
Using the military in this way is an unconscionable disgrace. Maybe if our senators and congressional representatives had to put their own children or other relatives at risk, they would make better decisions.
