Letter: Voter fraud would be easy in New York

The last time I voted, I stated my name, and the poll worker went to a page in the voter registry [“AG: No voter fraud found in New York State,” News, Feb. 23]. When I asked whether she need ID, she said no. So I asked, how do you know I am who I say I am?
She replied something like, because you said so and please sign here. She pointed to a spot where my earlier signature was displayed. Astounded, I said that signature would be easy to copy, and I proceeded unchallenged to cast my ballot!
Phony absentee ballots are even easier to submit. So, tell me, how would the state ever know whether there was voter fraud? If they don’t see it, it doesn’t exist!
