As "Buying in West Hempstead" [Home, Sept. 18] noted, West Hempstead is a diverse place with a "vibrant Orthodox community." It also has other Jewish and Protestant communities, as well as a vibrant Catholic community which has centered since 1931 around St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.
Our parish has both a church and a chapel to serve Catholics across the entire area and, since the 1950s, an elementary school. Today, with grades K through 8 and also a pre-K program, the school serves West Hempstead and several surrounding communities, both Catholic and non-Catholic children.
