Make up your mind!

The news story "Police unions back buyouts" [News, Feb. 21] states that the Nassau unions have agreed to an incentive package intended to encourage higher-paid officers to retire and save the county as much as $20 million annually.

Isn't this completely against what they have been screaming about for the last month about public safety? All they have been saying to Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano is, "You are putting the public in danger," and, "We can't possibly do our job with fewer police officers."

Now they seem to be agreeing with Mangano: Get rid of the top-paid administrators and get out from under the union's minimum-manning requirements.
