Letter: Why help people to stay in flood zones?

When a storm comes through my area and causes a tree to fall on my car or house, I look to my insurance policies for coverage. If I don’t have the correct policy or insurance limits, I need to look at my bank account.
That is, unless I buy a house in a flood zone [“AG to feds: Reform flood insurance,” News, Aug. 2]. Then I can get subsidized insurance and major government funding to move sand back, lift my house, build sand dunes and try to alter nature.
Why do we encourage people to move into harm’s way or stay there? Nature always wins.
