A court injunction to stop the collection of fines imposed on businesses in Nassau County will allow fairness to the commercial properties involved [“Judge to Nassau: Halt fines,” News, Jan. 24]. The fines were imposed on businesses that allegedly failed to file statements with the county assessor.

However, there could be a downside for residential property owners: What is not paid by commercial property owners could be shifted to the residential market. I would assume that outcome is not politically desirable for the lawmakers in the legislature.
