NYC lawmakers are pushing to legalize youth hostels, which were made illegal under a 2010 state law. However, some hostels operate classified as hotels on the city books. Pictured is HI NYC hostel at 891 Amsterdam Ave. on Nov. 23, 2015. Credit: Jeremy Bales

I am writing in regard to “Push to legalize hostels” [News, Nov. 30]. The New York City Council should legalize youth hostels, and the State Legislature should rescind the Illegal Hotels Bill of 2010, which destroyed the hostel industry in NYC.

As a young traveler, I believe that the legalization of hostels would attract more young people, like myself, to the city. Free food and decent lodging would attract more tourists my age and increase the revenue from tourists.
