Letters: A strange presidential campaign

Is anyone else offended by some of the totally ridiculous things happening in this election year ["Romney on LI for fundraisers," News, Sept. 14]?
How about the gleeful reports that President Barack Obama's campaign raised more than Mitt Romney's in August -- $114 million to $111.6 million? I am certain that the ever-growing number of families relying on food stamps to survive, and the reported one in five children going to school each day hungry, are just thrilled!
How about, as our brave heroes continue to face horrible injury and death in Afghanistan and other spots, the candidates barely mention them?
These politicians are so removed, they simply don't get it.

America's political process is sloppy, nasty and sharp-tongued. The right and left are opposites as voting blocs and as visionaries. It gets ugly in the trenches.
However, viewing political dissent in nations like Libya and Egypt, we can see how they transform into riotous and heinous episodes. The consequences of disagreement are murderous.
Here in America, the words, sentiments and actions are impassioned. The actual divisiveness is usually boiling without boiling over. When things get really heated we might unfriend each other on Facebook.
