Letters: Corruption and curious math irk Nassau residents

A recent letter writer said that Nassau County residents are able to accept a $23 annual increase in taxes . He's correct.
However, he has missed the point. I would be fine with paying this amount to maintain certain necessary services. The real issue is the amount of waste and corruption that keeps our taxes so high. We read about this almost every day in Newsday.
Where is the accountability?

It was reported in "Nassau lawmakers OK $46M in fee hikes" [News, Nov. 24] that the traffic ticket administration charge will increase from $30 to $45 and produce $7.1 million in new revenue.
For this $15 increase to produce that revenue, it would require 473,333 new tickets, or almost 1,300 a day. The 473,333 figure is equal to 30 percent of the Nassau County population, including children, reported by the U.S. census. How will those tickets be distributed, and at what cost?
Do we have crash dummies on the steering wheel of the budget?
