They remind me of Vice President Dan Quayle's remark about Murphy Brown glamorizing single parenthood. You could hear the writers of that show singing, "I got a golden ticket!"
The news article "Who doesn't pay and why" [Sept. 19] left out a huge group: corporations!
If you paid a penny in federal income tax last year, you paid more than at least 30 corporations, which paid zero, according to the nonprofit research group Citizens for Tax Justice.
We keep on hearing that spending is out of control. It is an unfair tax system that is out of control!
Further, Citizens for Tax Justice tells us that in the 1950s, corporate taxes were 27.8 percent of federal revenue; in 2010, they were 9.7 percent. We should be demanding that corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share. We need to invest in our children and improve the lives of all Americans, not just a few.
