In "A smile isn't always a smile . . ." [Opinion, Oct. 14], columnist Kathleen Parker notes that independents watching last week's vice-presidential debate likely saw Vice President Joe Biden "as dismissive, rude and unnecessarily condescending." A recent CBS News poll indicated that Biden won the debate among uncommitted voters.

While Parker is entitled to her political opinions, I wish Newsday would make sure that this malarkey is rooted in at least some reality or fact before printing it.

Joe Biden's continual interruption of Rep. Paul Ryan during their debate was disgraceful. The moderator, Martha Raddatz, did little or nothing to stop Biden. This appeared very distracting for Ryan during his presentation.

Biden revealed himself as a shrewd manipulator.
