While the increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour may provide short-term benefits, it will do nothing to attract new business to Long Island or expand current operations [“Higher wage is a vote for state’s working poor,” Editorial, April 5].

United Technologies is moving an operation, Carrier Corp., from Indianapolis to Mexico primarily to cut costs to achieve Wall Street analysts’ profit expectations. Skilled workers in the U.S. plant make $20 to $24 per hour. Carrier has said it will pay workers $3 an hour in Mexico.

The question not answered is, how much do you pay a skilled worker if entry-level employees make $15 an hour?
