The article mentions that, preferably, the county would have a commitment from a professional sports team to play home games in the Coliseum. The National Lacrosse League could be a good match. It has nine teams and is seeking a 10th.

I almost laughed out loud when I read that Edward Mangano met with Barclays Center developer Bruce Ratner about retooling the Coliseum. Isn't that like asking the cat, after he's eaten your canary, if he'd like you to prepare some dessert?

Ratner played Charles Wang against Nassau County and won his prize -- a National Hockey League franchise for his Brooklyn facility. The Coliseum, as a secondary venue, would pose no threat to Ratner's empire.

Smart, smart moves on Ratner's part. Like a cat. No wonder Mangano is thinking small. Like the canary.

And Nassau Coliseum becomes the home of arena football and indoor lacrosse, if Mangano's lucky.
