Musings: Let's hear it for Long Island theater!

Many Long Islanders are accused of being couch potatoes. There are numerous reasons why we are not going to Broadway.
The older population can barely afford a Broadway ticket, which also adds on fees, some over 45%. And take the train? The walk up the stairs hurts my knees.
Drive in? There’s the traffic and cost of parking. It becomes expensive, but that does not mean I’m a couch potato.
I used to be a snob about local theater, but I have changed my view. I can drive to various theaters on Long Island, get a parking spot and be thoroughly entertained. Local theater has improved over the years, plus many city actors come to Long Island to perform.
Of course, I will never give up Broadway forever, but just look at the many opportunities right here in our own backyard.
