Regarding "Nassau ready to fund special vote" [News, July 2], Long Island has always been shafted in terms of public transportation, especially when it comes to traveling on the Island. If I want to travel from Merrick to the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park, the Long Island Rail Road website advises me to go from Merrick to Jamaica Station, then take another train east to Deer Park! Why would I spend an hour and a half on a train for a trip that I could drive in 30 minutes?

Why can't they take down the Nassau Coliseum and turn it into our Jamaica Station? Think of just the immediate benefit to people going to Hofstra University, Roosevelt Field, Eisenhower Park and the IRS center in Garden City.

The volume would justify having a great bus system. Let's face it, Nassau County has been a closet adjunct of Queens for more than 50 years. We are not a suburban area anymore. We need convenient public transportation.
