Odd highway dept. math in Riverhead

Regarding “Highway chief’s OT at issue” [News, March 14], I find some numbers that don’t seem to work.

George Woodson, the highway superintendent for Riverhead, stated that he works an additional 1,800 hours a year. If you do the math, assuming a 50-week year, that’s an 36 extra hours a week.

If his $88,665 salary is converted into hourly earnings, that comes to $11.67 an hour. I would wager his workers have a higher per-hour wage than he does. Something doesn’t add up.
