I am a handicapped Korean War veteran, and I use a walker. I found it impossible to cross the streets onto a sidewalk, which the plows have blocked with packed snow [“After a record snow, a moderate melt on LI,” News, March 23]. They should truck the snow away to other locations.

New York City requires a path be cleared for pedestrians within four hours, if the snowfall ends between 7 a.m. and 4:59 p.m.

Landlords and town officials in North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, and New York State maintenance crews must give our handicapped people more consideration. Many of us have to walk to get a few things and cannot drive.

Veterans fought for you, let’s show some appreciation.
