Public employee salaries are too high

Ninety retired government workers and teachers statewide are eligible to collect more than $200,000 a year in pensions and more than a quarter of them worked on Long Island, state records show. In all, nearly 8,000 retirees statewide can collect in excess of $100,000 a year. Credit: iStock
I am writing in response to the report about Hempstead Town spokesman Michael Deery’s salary [“Town official, 2nd driver in fatality,” News, Nov. 4].
Where is the outrage over civil servants’ salaries?
Years ago, these jobs gave benefits and job security. Now, the pay is above the private sector. He’s making nearly $194,000 plus benefits.
That is insane. Politicians give away our tax dollars, and we don’t care.
