King can’t ignore shift

in demographics

I view Rep. Peter King’s vocal support for the increase in Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests as an embrace of the white supremacism behind this federal policy [“Deportations on LI, arrests on rise,” News, May 29].

These arrests have increasingly targeted immigrants who may not have criminal convictions

This vilification by King of his Latino constituents destabilizes our communities and does nothing to work toward the comprehensive immigration reform we need.

I hope he recognizes that Long Island’s changing demographics not only strengthen our economy and enrich our neighborhoods, but also mean that he cannot ignore these votes when running for Congress in 2018.
