Letter: Repeal NY State's bottle law

It's time to get rid of the nickel deposit law. The law is unfair because it only pertains to water, soda and beer. It does not include plastics or cans containing juice, Snapple, Yoo-hoo, wine and other products.
Many people do not redeem their bottles and cans. Twenty percent of unclaimed nickel deposits go back to the big distributors, and the rest to New York State. Many stores limit the number of returns but not the amount you can buy. Many times, I've had to go to different stores to redeem my containers, because the stores don't sell a particular item, or the machines are broken.
It's time we fix the problem or follow New Jersey's lead and put these items in the recycling bins. Put the nickel deposit back in consumers' pockets.
