Musings: Snow brings us all together
Helpful neighbors can make snowstorms tolerable. Credit: Newsday/Howard Schnapp
It took a snowy-day crisis to remind me once again of what really makes this country like no other.
In the middle of the recent blizzard, my Dominican neighbor is shoveling the driveway of the Irish family next door while my Haitian friend is helping clean the driveway of our Jewish neighbor. Our new Guyanese block members are playing in the snow for the first time while I am cleaning the driveway of the Trinidadian family across the street.
Everyone pitching in to do the right thing. That is America! Just grab a shovel!
