Are Jeff Bezos and his Amazon the answer to Long Island’s employment woes? The answer is an unqualified yes [“Could LI deliver for Amazon?,” Editorial, Sept. 21].

Where could we place the behemoth project? The answer is the proposed Heartland development property in Brentwood, 460 acres practically in the center of Long Island and a couple miles from the Deer Park train station.

Developer Jerry Wolkoff has held this property for 15 years. The best thing for New York State and Suffolk County would be to have Amazon’s resources to build the infrastructure improvements that Wolkoff now wants from the public for his multiuse development.

Wolkoff should speak to Bezos and negotiate a sale.

I oppose the 9,000 apartments planned for Heartland Town Square. But a smaller housing project combined with a company as large as Amazon could be what we’ve been looking for.

If New York State and Nassau County are serious about economic development, they should coordinate efforts to bring the online shopping giant’s proposed second North American headquarters to unused land at Belmont Park.

It makes perfect sense. This location has the space, access to transportation and available talent pool. Its proximity to New York City would be a key advantage for Amazon.

Empire State Development, the economic development arm of New York State government, should be doing everything in its power to attract Amazon.
