After I enjoyed Bruce Springsteen's concert May 5 at UBS Arena, my family and I faced a nightmarish situation upon leaving. We were presented with a choice via bullhorn: "It's a 10-minute walk to the parking areas or a 25-minute wait for a shuttle."

From past experience, that 10-minute walk estimate is a farce. It's more like 30 minutes in wind and cold. Multiple lines of people — some with physical challenges — merged into one line to wait for a shuttle.

Springsteen ironically preached "unity" at the concert, which was followed by pushing, shoving, elbowing and cursing as we crammed our way onto a shuttle.

Oh, the shuttle first bypassed the parking areas to drop off two passengers at the Long Island Rail Road station. The rest of us and the shuttle then crawled for another 45 minutes in gridlocked traffic. Yes, the Boss belts out "Land of Hope and Dreams" while so many of us dream of a system that isn't run so inefficiently.
