I read “Nassau’s budget needs a fixer” [Editorial, Nov. 4], and it was impressive as far as it went. But I have to ask why the Newsday editorial board gives Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos a free pass.

According to the comptroller’s website, he serves as the fiscal watchdog for Nassau County. Among other things, he’s supposed to monitor Nassau’s budget and financial operations. Based on Nassau County’s financial condition, has the comptroller been doing his job since he was elected?

In addition, what has the Nassau Interim Finance Authority contributed to this financial mess?
