New York recently declared that cheerleading is officially an interscholastic sport, the 35th state to do so ["Cheerleading finally makes the cut," Opinion, May 11].

This raises some important questions. Will the competitive cheerleading team be urged on by a newly formed group of cheerleader cheerleaders?

If so, will that group eventually qualify for sport status?
