Why is United States fighting in Syria?
With the many contending forces in Syria — including the Syrian army, Iran, Russia, Turkey, Kurds, Hezbollah, jihadists and various other rebel groups — why is the United States there [“U.S. downs armed drone in Syria,” News, June 21]?
What sense is it to shoot down a Syrian warplane in Syria, for which there is no legal basis both in international and U.S. law?
What catastrophe awaits if U.S. planes are attacked and shot down? Will not escalation of the conflict follow?
Are there no wise thinkers to call a halt to this folly?
