Long Island musings for National Haiku Day
Today is National Haiku Day. In observance, we offer these thoughts.
Mario did well.
Andrew has big shoes to fill,
and tougher terrain.
Pensions threaten us.
What was and will be promised?
What promises kept?
Tax cuts for the rich
and for everyone else, too.
Whatever rich means.
Massive deficit.
Will it be our destruction
or a conquered foe?
Two-point-eight million
on our lovely Long Island,
all stuck in traffic.
Christmas draws nearer.
Hanukkah's bright lights are past.
Be joyful, always.
E-mail haiku about Long Island issues to letters@newsday.com by noon Wednesday for possible publication. Put "haiku'' in the subject field. Poems will be edited and may be republished in all media.
