This release just arrived from the press office of Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg. And we thought Nassau County's fiscal emergency was the story of the day.

ICE CREAM SHORTAGE TO AFFECT OVER 10,000 LONG ISLAND

RESIDENTS ON FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

NEW YORK – Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg will join Good Humor officials and civic and community leaders at a press conference, surrounded by ice cream trucks, to discuss the ice cream shortage on Long Island impacting over 10,000 children and families, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 (first day of summer) at 12 pm, Wantagh Park, 1 King Road, just south of Merrick Road, Wantagh, NY.

Due to distribution problems, popular Good Humor flavors for generations including: Toasted Almond, Cookies and Cream and Chocolate Éclair are not available on ice cream trucks. Temperatures in the region are expected to near 100 degrees this week. This is the first time children on Long Island will not be able to enjoy their favorite summer treats. Local officials are starting a petition directed at Good Humor, founded over 90 years ago, to make their most popular flavors available.
