3 -- That's the number of appearances the U.S. women's soccer team has made in the World Cup championship final, including Sunday's match against Japan. The women's team has made it to the finals in half the World Cups since it started in 1991. This tremendous record of achievement partially stems from Title IX, the federal law that requires equal funding for men's and women's school sports. Passed in 1972, it has enabled countless young women to play sports. And that's the real winning goal.
