Belisa Morillo
Newsday Investigations TV Producer / Multimedia ReporterI am an investigative television and multimedia producer with more than 20 years of experience across U.S. national and international networks. Based in New York, I currently produce in-depth investigative content for NewsdayTV, contributing to reporting, field production, visual storytelling and cross-platform content development.
Before joining Newsday, I produced NarcoFiles for CNN en Español, a groundbreaking international investigation into organized crime involving more than 40 media outlets across 23 countries. I led the documentary investigative team that earned a National News & Documentary Emmy Award in 2025 for Outstanding Investigative Journalism in Spanish.
From Tiananmen Square to Long Island, I have a passion for telling stories.
At Newsday, I collaborate closely with newsroom reporters to transform complex print investigations into compelling visual stories, conduct field reporting and interviews, and produce high-impact content across television, digital and social platforms.
Throughout my career, I have reported on immigration, drug trafficking, political corruption and major social issues across the United States and Latin America. I have held key roles at Univision’s newsmagazine Aquí y Ahora, the Noticias Telemundo investigative unit and Al Jazeera America, contributing to coverage of major international stories, including the reopening of the U.S. Embassy in Cuba.
My journalism career began in 1989, when I was a freshman at Peking University in Beijing during the student-led demonstrations that culminated in the Tiananmen Square massacre — an experience that launched my career, translating for French journalist Pierre Hurel.
I hold a master’s degree from Columbia University in New York and am professionally fluent in Spanish, English and Mandarin Chinese. My work has received multiple honors, including three National News & Documentary Emmy Awards, a Society of Professional Journalists Sunshine State Award in 2021 and an additional national Emmy nomination. When I am not reporting or digging into an investigation, I enjoy playing table tennis, traveling and dancing the tango.
