Doug Geed
Newsday Anchor / Senior CorrespondentI’m a lifelong Long Islander, born in Syosset and a 1976 graduate of Syosset High School. I got my bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri Journalism School in 1980. My first job was as a reporter anchor for WALK radio.
I created, hosted and produced The East End Show from 1997-2023. I joined NewsdayTV in September of 2025 and continued my coverage of the East End with a new show called Out East.
I’ve always tried to highlight the farms, the local craftspeople, the baymen and artists who work so hard to preserve the way of life out east.
Although I grew up in Nassau County, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the East End. Right after World War II, suburbia on Long Island exploded. Neighborhoods and shopping centers spread quickly across Nassau and Suffolk, but the five East End towns decided that they wanted to keep their rural way of life. Although the number of farms is vastly different from decades ago, there is still lots of agricultural land and open space on the North and South Forks. I’ve always tried to highlight the farms, the local craftspeople, the baymen and artists who work so hard to preserve the way of life out east.
I’ve covered local government and politics for more than 45 years, covering everything from village board meetings to state budget battles in Albany to the inauguration of President Obama in Washington.
I’ve won 10 Emmy Awards, dozens of local, regional and state awards and was named Journalist of the Year in 2004 by the LI Press Club. I was an inaugural member of the Long Island Journalism Hall of Fame. I was also named one of the top 50 most influential people on Long Island by City & State Magazine.
I’ve been married for 41 years, have three children and two grandchildren. I’m also a long-suffering but loyal fan of the Mets, Jets and Islanders.
